Sahara Desert : Sahara Desert

In this video, we travel into the Sahara Desert on camels from the Merzouga area in southeastern Morocco. Near the desert camp where we plan to stay, we are walking toward a high sand dune that offers a panoramic view of the surroundings.

The area around Merzouga is known for Erg Chebbi, a series of large, reddish sand dunes, and is one of the most prominent tourist areas for experiencing the Sahara Desert from Morocco. There are many tours available where you can ride camels through the dunes and enjoy the sunset, starry night sky, and sunrise at the camp. On this trip as well, we took a camel ride from near Merzouga and traveled for over 30 minutes to reach the camp.

The Sahara Desert is one of the world’s largest hot deserts, spanning a wide area of North Africa. It is not entirely composed of sand dunes; it is a vast region that also includes rocky areas and gravel plains. While the Sahara Desert can be visited from several countries other than Morocco, Merzouga is a popular gateway because it is relatively easy for tourists to access.

I took a tour starting from Fes, but there are also many tours heading there from Marrakech. Since either starting point involves a long drive, it is recommended to check the sightseeing spots along the way, accommodation options, travel times, and vehicle comfort in advance to choose a tour that suits you best.

Once you actually step into the sand dunes, the silence and the landscape of sand stretching as far as the eye can see are truly impressive. Along with the camel ride and desert camping, please take your time to fully enjoy this unique experience in the Sahara.
