Uçhisar Castle is a renowned landmark in Cappadocia. Carved into a massive rock mountain, this fortress-like structure sits at one of the region’s highest points, making it a famous vantage point for panoramic views of the surrounding fairy chimneys and valleys.
I left my hotel early in the morning to catch the sunrise from the top of the castle. On clear days, the sky is often filled with hot air balloons; however, despite the good weather, the balloons were grounded that day due to wind. Having booked a flight myself, I was quite disappointed.
Balloon operations in Cappadocia prioritize safety above all else, and flights are frequently cancelled based on weather and wind conditions. If you want to ensure you experience a balloon ride, it may be wise to plan a stay of several days.
Additionally, my guide had warned me about stray dogs near the back of the castle in the early morning, and I did encounter quite a few. I recommend staying alert and mindful of your surroundings, especially when visiting during quiet hours with few people around.
Despite the challenges, watching the Cappadocia landscape bathed in the morning light from such a high vantage point was a truly memorable experience—a place where you can deeply feel the region’s majestic natural beauty.
