I visited Oslob in the southern part of Cebu for a swimming experience with whale sharks. Oslob is a popular tourist destination known for allowing visitors to observe huge whale sharks up close. Actually entering the ocean and seeing a whale shark swimming slowly right next to me was powerful and left a strong impression. You can experience the size and graceful movements of whale sharks, which is different from watching them in a video.
Before participating, we received an explanation of the precautions, and rules were established to protect the whale sharks, such as not touching them and maintaining a certain distance. The explanation that touching a whale shark would result in a fine was particularly memorable. When actually experiencing this, please make sure to check the guidance of the local staff and the latest rules to enjoy it.
Also, if you are participating in a day trip from the resort area of Cebu, many plans depart early in the morning, and the tour I joined departed from the hotel around 3:00 AM. Since the travel time is long, we recommend getting enough sleep the night before and leaving plenty of room in your subsequent sightseeing plans.
Waking up early is a bit tough, but the experience of swimming in the same ocean as the big whale sharks was even more wonderful, and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip to Cebu.
