Roma to Colosseo : Colosseum, Rome

This video takes you on a walk toward Rome’s iconic World Heritage Site, the Colosseum.

Starting from Piazza del Campidoglio, the route passes by the Forum Romanum—the political and economic center of ancient Rome—and heads toward the Colosseum, walking along its northern side to the opposite end.

This area is packed with historical highlights of ancient Rome, making it a captivating place where you can enjoy magnificent ruins and historical architecture just by walking around.

When visiting the Colosseum, please note that entry areas and gates vary depending on the ticket type. In addition to standard admission tickets, there are special tickets that grant access to the arena floor or underground areas. Be sure to check the entry gate, meeting point, and time slot specified on your ticket in advance, and arrive with plenty of time to spare.

Another challenge I faced was restrictions on filming equipment. I brought a monopod for my camera, which prevented me from entering, so I had to hastily search for a nearby luggage storage service. However, finding a place to store my belongings was surprisingly difficult, as some locations found online were closed or unavailable.

The Colosseum strictly limits large luggage as well as photography equipment like monopods and tripods. If you plan to bring large backpacks, suitcases, or filming equipment, we strongly recommend checking the official website beforehand for guidelines and leaving unnecessary items at your hotel.

Advance ticket booking is also essential.
There are several types of tickets available. While tickets with arena access were relatively easy to get when I booked, other tickets that include special tour areas sold out almost immediately upon release. Since popular tickets may sell out for your preferred date and time, it is best to check the official website early for sale dates and reservation details once your trip is decided. If you cannot get the ticket you want, considering a guided tour is another good option.

While the Colosseum is impressive from the outside, stepping inside allows you to view up close the structure of the massive amphitheater where ancient Roman gladiators fought. Combining your visit with the nearby Forum Romanum and Palatine Hill will give you a deeper feel for ancient Roman history.

When you visit Rome, be sure to leave plenty of time to enjoy these historic streets and the magnificent views of the Colosseum.
